Old school dining

For todays excursion, we will be going to our favorite city, Pasig. Me & my hubby Ben stayed in Pasig City for a good 5 to 6 years. We loved it here, the streets are always clean, enforcers around even on holidays, and best of all your close to the malls LOL in our 6 years here, weekends (even week days) are always TO THE PODIUM in Ortigas and just a stone throw away is SM Mega Mall. Ah this is the life !

Ok let’s get back to business. The head of the family’s interview for today is somewhere near Ultra. Again, some good old memories {Flashback Mode}. We used to jog at the Oval for an hour every day before going to work, and on Sundays, we’d swim for an hour as well. Yes, we try to keep fit, you see despite my being a Foodie Fun Person, I am somewhat sick sniff sniff. But that’s for my other blog to marinate on.

We said our good lucks and headed for Jade Palace in Shaw Boulevard. Traffic was horrendous ! All directions none moving, good thing I’ve gathered enough intel thru the years of the back streets here. Still it took us a good 30 minutes to get there. Being it an halfway point from lunch to early dinner, 3:30PM was a good time. We were immediately parked upon arrival. Tables were available. We were seated on the table just across the display window of freshly made goodies, like Siopao, Buchi & Asado Roll. If you look further, you could see the cooks preparing meals. That’s 1 thing I love about this restaurant, it’s old school.

Benz ordered the very delectable looking Asado Roll, which comes in 2 pieces per order & the Beef Brisket Mami, thin noodles. Here, you have the option of having your mami either in thin noodles, like pancit or shanghai noodles, flat like fettucini.

We decided to just split the order cause it’s a lot, and some water on the side. It was delicious. The soup itself is warm and soothing you’d forget about the hustle & bustle of traffic outside. The beef brisket tender to the bite & the noodles made just right, not mushy or over cooked. The Asado Roll was delectable just the same, the Bun soft & warm, and when you bite into it juicy asado bits surprise your palate. Just 1 roll will make you full ! Roll & filling both fulfilling !

All in all our meal cost us only P183 pesos ! Our cheapest meal by far
amongst our food escapades ! And we are so full ! Ben called us to say he’s finish with his interview, but due to the guards incapability to assist him well we had to wait for 3 hours, for his barely 20 minutes interview. Good thing our tummys were happy LOL.

WARNING ! ADDICTIVE !

There’s cake & there’s CAKE ! I’ve had my share of cake hopping thru the years, My all time favorites : Hizons – Custard Cake, Cravings – Mango Tart, Red Ribbon – Blueberry, Ube & Mango Tart, Goldilocks – Brazo de Mercedes, Contis – Mango Bravo.

During one of my syobe’s (younger sister) after church bring homes, she brought a box full of Parvatti plain, sugar raised donuts, the kind that you buy on your friendly neighborhood bakeries. It was an automatic hit! A couple of minutes in the oven toaster & WALAA! Freshly baked, oven treat! So when she told us that she’s meeting her best friend, Parvatti owner Joan, everybody was already all smiles, this means coffee & cake! I didn’t bother looking at the menu, there was so many to choose from I will be bamboozle by so much deliciousness LOL. So I let t
hem order on my behalf, Blue berry cheesecake minis & Brazo de Mercedes with unlimited, refillable, bottomless Arabica coffee  - PERFECT !!!

The Blue berry cheesecakes minis didn’t last long, Benz ate it all, all 6 minis ! We had to request for another order. A slice of the Brazo was good enough for all 3 of us, me, syobe (younger sister), and syoti (younger brother). It melts in your mouth delicious ! The top, lightly toasted yet soft & fluffy like cotton candy, it’s middle part (yes, you heard me right) made of “just right” custard, not sweet & tacky, and the end part yummy surprise of homemade ice cream YUMMY ! Most  Brazo de Mercedes is like a log, and it only has 2components – t
he white & the yellow. It’s the yellow custard wrapped around the white feathery egg white whipped in cream of tartar & sugar. The Parvatti version has 3 delectable components ! Ice Cream on the last later ! BTW it doesn’t taste like ice cream mind you, not the refrigerator type that we make at home, there’s ice cream yet it feels all custard in your mouth, just colder. It was so delectable, it’s addictive, I WANT MORE !

Kung Fu Panda in the House

Aku Poe – that’s what my 7 year old daughter Benz calls her uncle. Randy is the youngest of us 3 siblings, he’s 25, to Benz he’s Kung Fu Panda, the Dragon Warrior !
Benz & I was so excited to be heading out to Glorietta to have dinner with the family. My husband Ben was not feeling well so he begged to stay at home.

Parking was easy considering that this was the 1st time I drove to Glorietta by myself, luckily too it was near Mongkok Restaurant where the whole family was having dinner. This was a special night cause we will be meeting Randy’s girl friend April for the 1st time.

But wait, let me tell you a little something about “the Family”. My family is comprised of my Mom (widowed from a living dad for 25 years, which is another story to read about), me (the eldest & I’m 41), my sister IVY (she’s 30) & our youngest Randy, 25. We are all buffet champions LOL, ooops except our mom, but she can participate mind you.

The restaurant was nice, well lit, not over crowded with tables, and best of all it has a view. We settled down, had our introductions & off to the buffet table. It had all my favorite ! Yangchow fried rice, birthday pancit canton, sweet & sour pork, lemon chicken, salt & pepper squid more more more. I got a little of everything, hey no left overs please. It was scrumptious!

There’s really nothing like Chinese food. It’s like no matter how much you eat, you just can’t have enough. The food was a delight, everything had the right flavor, not too salty, not too sweet. My only remorse was that my tummy just can’t hold so much hahaha. What tortures me was that the kitchen comes up with new rations every now & then. You see the buffet was only a couple of courses, not like the usual train of different dishes. There was just 5 of them. But once it turns empty, they change it into a new dish ! Wow ! Talk about variety. Next was their very own Fried Chicken & beef with broccoli, also a much loved fare.

Benz had a little of pancit, some chicken & mostly dessert. Dessert was chilled mango puree with sago, buchi balls, leche flan & some more sweet stuff. My tummy only had room for some mango sago. Coupled with their bottomless ice tea there was just no more room for anything else.

The dinner was a success, a happy reunion. The food was great, fulfilling ! The excursion cost us Php0.00, no it wasn’t free but it was Randy’s treat. Although per head it cost Php300.00 less the bottomless ice tea. All in all, it was another happy day for the tummy !
