It
was a long and early drive. My husband Ben’s interview is somewhere in NAIA
terminal 3 – call time 8:30am. Benz
was still sleeping in the car on our way to Star Cruises Building. It was cool,
there was ample parking, paid mind you. A Mcdonalds just walking distance from
it but . . . the buildings ground level
was abundant with options !
As
I go around going towards the parking entrance I saw Pancake House, Kenny
Rogers, Bo Café, and Shakeys. Choices choices. When I turned off the engine, a
yawning Benz woke up, “Are we there yet?” . I use to think that this line was a
joke whenever they used it in movies, but it’s not. It’s really the maddening question that always comes up.
We
bid our head of the family “Good Luck” and “God Bless” and proceeded to walk to
the lobby. 24 HOURs, all restaurants here are 24 hours ! Good to know. It means
that despite the early hour they crew are ready to serve.
Will
you be surprised if I tell you that when I asked Benz, she answered PIZZA? Yes,
of all the choices there for breakfast (since it was just 8:00am) she picked
Shakeys.
This
time she didn’t need a menu, she straight away ordered Mojos. Ben was still
early for his 8:30 so I ordered him some breakfast as well. When I asked the
server what was readily available, he said all pasta dishes, we picked Lasagna.
Blame
it on the time of day but the server was not really in to it. He was not
friendly nor accommodating. I even feel that he was trying to avoid being
called, oh well. Maybe he’s been working since night time, benefit of a doubt.
It’s a pleasant morning so I wouldn’t want to ruin it.
For
refreshment Benz ordered her usual bottomless ice tea ( I know bad bad bad) and
I ordered their coffee with refill. I was still a bit chilly from the morning
wake, so I also asked for their Cream of Chicken Soup, it’s my favorite. I love
the crispy potato strips on top of the soup, and the creaminess of the chicken
together with some sliced ham. It was so soothing. I was smiling after a few
spoonfuls.
When
it was his time to go, we bid Ben our 2nd good lucks. I then
finished my half of the Lasagna. It was
nice, I wish it was more thou. The portion was ok , just too modest for it’s
price if you ask me.
This
interview was lengthy, or rather the waiting time as I found out later when Ben
was through. He was given a call time of 8:30am but was spoken to around 1:00pm
! What’s wrong with these people ???
We
ordered breakfast around 8:00am, so by 12 noon we already have to order lunch.
By this time the place was packed, good news is we had a new server. This time,
he was very friendly & accommodating. For lunch, Benz ordered Pepperoni
Pizza.
It
was customary for me to pack for contingency whenever we accompany Ben for an
interview. In the event that it took him the whole day cause believe me, it
does. This time I packed our laptop, a book & some crayons for Benz. I
started reading Map of Bones for this excursion. It was a good book, kept me
glued to the pages the whole time. When Ben finally came back, exhausted from
the wait but happy with the results, he was famished. Good thing that the Bunch
of Lunch was available the whole day.
All
in all we had a good day. This outing cost us Php900. And since it’s our all
time favorite Shakeys, it’s a happy day for the tummy !
